Due to Alaska’s vast size and scale, not to mention long and treacherous winters, the bush plane has long been a necessary way to travel here. Today, the Anchorage seaplane port is the busiest in the world, and it’s still by far the best way to take in the immense beauty of the frontier. One unforgettable experience is to charter a “flightseeing” tour to Denali National Park and 20,000-foot Mount McKinley. From high above, spot moose and beluga whales, then avalanches and icefalls, before flying over the deepest gorge in the world and on to Mount McKinley. After seeing the mountain up close, you’ll land on a snow-covered glacier at its base.
