This pillar of Baltimore’s art scene houses a collection of more than 90,000 pieces of art in a 1920s building designed by American architect John Russell Pope. The works amassed here are as diverse as they are impressive. The Cone Collection features the world’s largest collection of paintings by Henri Matisse and other masterpieces by Picasso, Cézanne, Degas and Van Gogh. The Grand Legacy: Five Centuries of European Art exhibit includes renowned works by Sir Anthony van Dyck, Rembrandt and Jean Baptiste Siméon. An entire wing is dedicated to contemporary art and an exhibition of American and European furniture from throughout history. In the summer months, visitors can enjoy the museum’s outdoor sculpture gardens, which 100 years’ worth of modern and contemporary sculpture spread over three beautifully landscaped acres.
