Experience scenes and figures of American history in a fascinating way—through wax figures with a remarkable attention to detail. Wax artisans have created scale likenesses of historic African-American figures including Harriet Tubman, Bob Marley, Jackie Robinson, Malcolm X and even President Obama. Viewing scenes such as that of the life of Matthew Henson, the explorer who first traveled to the North Pole in 1909, becomes an interactive experience. Some of the scenes, such as depictions of a lynching and a slave ship, portray violence in graphic realism (warnings are posted on the wall outside these exhibits), something to keep in mind for younger children.
