Barcelona is home to some beautiful beaches.

Airport Info
Barcelona International Airport, BCN, is located about six miles southwest of the city. Rental cars are available at the airport as are shuttle services. Only people 21 years old or older are allowed to rent cars in Barcelona. Additional transportation options include taxi, train and bus services. A bus ride from Placa Catalunya to the airport will cost about 5 Euros ($6.76) and take about 30 minutes. A taxi will take 20 minutes, depending on traffic.

Getting Around
Walking is the recommended way to get around the city, as it allows you to take in the city’s renowned architecture. The metro or buses are also good options, offering a clean, efficient way to travel. Taxis are not encouraged if trying to get around the heart of Barcelona. Car rental is only required if making day trips outside of Barcelona.

Geography & Climate:
Barcelona is located on the northeastern edge of Spain’s Catalonia region and is Europe’s largest metropolis on the Mediterranean coast. The climate is considered Mediterranean, characterized by warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Summer lasts about six months, with the average temperatures around 80 degrees Fahrenheit in July and August and average around 50 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter.

Time Zone: Barcelona is located in the Central European Time zone.

Currency: Spain, like most of Europe, uses the Euro. One US dollar equals about .74 Euros. Expect to spend between 6 and 25 Euros for lunch, which is the main meal of the day. Bottles of water range from .60 and 1.40 Euros. 

Safety: Barcelona welcomes millions of tourists every year and is generally considered a safe and visitor-friendly destination. However, visitors are encouraged to take normal safety provisions while staying in the area. Take extra precaution when visiting popular tourist sites, as pick-pockets are known to frequent these areas. In case of emergency, dial 112.
