Lone Peak at Big Sky Resort (and its sister resort, Moonlight Basin) is Montana’s pre-eminent ski destination. With 400 inches of annual snowfall, more that 5,500 skiable acres and 4,350 feet of vertical drop, everything about this hill is big. Signature trails such as Ambush and Crazy Horse are known for being fun and accessible—Big Sky is a great spot for novice skiers, while more experienced types will dig all the room to explore. The après-ski scene is similarly accessible, and not as price-prohibitive as comparable mountains in, say, Colorado. After a day on the slopes, unwind at the offbeat and delicious Fondue Stube, where the servers dress in lederhosen and occasionally sing.
