Museum Mile runs from the Charleston Visitor Center to the Nathaniel Russell House on Meeting Street allowing you to knock out six museums, five historic homes, four parks, 10 houses of worship and more along the one-mile route. Noteworthy stops include the Aiken-Rhett House on Elizabeth Street and The Charleston Museum, America’s first museum. Off Cumberland Street you can visit The Powder Magazine, established in 1713 as Charleston’s first armory, which is housed in the Carolinas’ oldest public building. Other highlights include the Nathaniel Russell and Heyward-Washington houses. When you need a walking break, grab a shady seat in Washington Park or indulge in some barbecue at Sticky Fingers Ribhouse, ideally situated about halfway through the stroll.
