Step into American history at the Sixth Floor Museum at Peavey Plaza. Formerly the Texas School Book Depository, where Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated JFK from the sixth story window in 1963, it’s now home to a museum chronicling the 35th president’s life, death and legacy. The sixth floor of the building is set up to mirror its appearance during the assassination and it overlooks the grassy knoll and route that was used for the President’s parade on that fateful day. In the exhibit you’ll find artifacts, photographs, films, and a reading room, along with audiovisual resources and artifacts. Before you leave, be sure to check out the museum store, which is full of books on the president and the first lady and other typical souvenirs. The JFK Memorial is located two blocks away on Main and Market Streets, so make a stop there following your visit to this historical site.
