Everything’s bigger in Texas and that also goes for the State Fair. Texans take their state fair very seriously—the annual event is the largest in the United States based on attendance: more than 2.6 million people attended in 2010. The self-proclaimed “Fried Food Capital of Texas” is 24 days of music, parades, rides, animals, demonstrations, competitions and perhaps most importantly, food, held at historic Fair Park in Dallas. Big Tex, a gigantic cowboy who welcomes fairgoers is a Texas icon and the world’s largest talking cowboy figure, standing at 52-feet-tall. Try some crazy new fair foods. (Fried bubblegum or buffalo chicken in a flapjack, anyone?)
