The creatively curated store of this superior art museum is worth a visit in itself. The first floor of the venerable Hamilton Building, once a boring lobby, now showcases a vast selection of books, cards, jewelry, glass and pottery, with selections that—unlike many museum stores—don’t simply duplicate other touristy gallery fare. But the museum is great, too, with something for lovers of both modern art (main wing) and traditional art such as Spanish and American Indian (north building). Traveling exhibits straight from New York almost always break new ground and are accompanied by a stellar lecture series.
