While small in size, this quaint green-roofed wildlife conservation center welcomes more than 150,000 visitors every year. For the best viewing experience of these endangered gentle giants, or “sea cows,” in the wild, make sure to head out to Manatee Park between November and March, due to the cooler gulf temperature. Pack a picnic and take stock of the fantastic natural surroundings of Fort Myers near the fishing pier on the Orange River. If you would like to get a bit closer to nature, rent a canoe or kayak and launch yourself out to view wildlife in crystal clear blue skies and water. The park also has an extensive butterfly garden, a program amphitheater and a playground for the kids.
