Fort Myers is a coastal city with a small town atmosphere and big city attractions. Like many Florida communities, this area is known as a tourist and retiree destination. But no matter what your age, sun and fun are always available.

Fort Myers offers numerous nature parks and recreational areas as well as freshwater fishing excursions, canoeing, swimming and kayaking. Along with its scenic landscape, Fort Myers is filled with beaches, a renowned yacht marina, an unending variety of restaurants and shops within walking distance of historic homes and numerous golf courses.

If you’re looking for a getaway rich in nighttime activities, head to the beach for live music, good food and entertainment to be found all along the coast. You can start your night out at one of the city’s many eateries with dishes that vary from fresh seafood to authentic Italian cuisine and traditional American fare. If golf is your way of getting into the swing of a great vacation, you have a variety of options. For instance, the course that provided a tranquil diversion for notables such as Thomas Edison and Henry Ford was the Fort Myers Country Club.

Fort Myers also has many museums that provide intellectual escapes. History buffs will not want to miss the Southwest Florida Museum of History, a great spot where you can learn more about the history of Fort Myers and the southwest Florida region. The museum offers both guided tours and the opportunity to stroll through the exhibits as you become familiar with the intriguing and often surprising events that happened in this region and played a major role in shaping our nation.
