The former home of one of Jacksonville's most prominent families is now the site of the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens.

Museums in Jacksonville are so much more than a rainy day activity. From natural history to contemporary art, the city is packed with interactive exhibits, educational displays and imaginative fun for every interest and every age. Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville

Located on Hemming Plaza, it’s easy to spend the afternoon or an entire day browsing the multiple floors of inviting exhibition spaces at the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville. As one of the Southeast’s largest contemporary art museums, this cultural landmark emphasizes works created after 1960 and includes noteworthy painting, printmaking, sculpture and photography. Families will love the interactive visual art stations inside ArtExplorium Loft, and Café Nola features upscale bistro fare in an eclectic, light environment.

The fun, educational and interactive exhibits at Jacksonville’s Museum of Science and History are sure to provide hours of educational fun for both the young and the young-at-heart. Permanent exhibits include multiple aquariums, a planetarium, a larger-than-life walk-through display of the human body and opportunities to meet a few of Florida’s native animals including owls, snakes, turtles, tortoises and alligators.

From an impressive collection of American and European art to one-and-a-half acres of stunning formal gardens, the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens is home to all things beautiful. As the second largest art museum in Florida, the collection features more than 5,000 masterpieces that span the centuries from ancient to modern. Experience art with all your senses at the Art Connections nationally renowned interactive learning center, and stroll through the English and Italian gardens along the picturesque St. John’s River.

If you love getting out on the water, you won’t want to miss the Jacksonville Maritime Museum. Located next to the Friendship Fountain on the Southbank Riverwalk, this small waterfront historical center strives to capture and preserve Jacksonville’s extensive coastal maritime heritage. From deep sea diving to models of historic wartime vessels, the museum features intricate battleship replicas, nautical instruments, vintage city maps and other fascinating historical artifacts.

Revered as Jacksonville's premier venue for African American heritage and culture, the Ritz Theatre and LaVilla Museum celebrate this vibrant community through only the finest visual and performing art. Walk through the LaVilla Museum to learn about the history of African-Americans in Northeast Florida through photographs and artifacts, and don’t miss the chance to witness an exciting performance inside the state-of-the-art Ritz Theatre. On the first Friday of every month, stop in for Amateur Night at the Ritz, molded after the famed Apollo Amateur Night in Harlem, when aspiring artists and performers take to the stage to compete for the audience’s favor. And on the first Saturday of every month, the theater's lobby transforms into the Ritz Jazz Lounge, presenting cool jazz music from both local and national artists.
