This is a must-see for fans of famed architect and native Wisconsinite Frank Lloyd Wright, who predicted Monona Terrace would never be built in his lifetime. He was right. The building, which sits 90 feet out over the waters of Lake Monona, opened in 1997, nearly 60 years after Wright first proposed his design to city officials. Take a tour to learn how his organic architecture is expressed in dramatic open spaces, circular forms—down to the carpet design— and beautiful lake views. The rooftop garden hosts free public dances every Friday in August and weddings among its gardens many weekends out of the year. Take a moment to visit the Otis Redding Memorial, which pays tribute to the legendary soul singer who died in a plane crash in Lake Monona on December 10, 1967.
