Montréal, Québec

Type:  Neighborhoods & Districts

It’s the cobblestoned streets of Old Montréal that travelers instantly fall in love with when exploring this charming and historic city. Dating back to the 18th and 19th century, stone buildings here have been transformed into art galleries, boutiques, brasseries and small hotels such as the Nelligan and Le Petit. From the Old Port to the copper-roofed city hall (where French President General de Gaulle once uttered, “Vive le Quebec libre!”), this historic neighborhood evokes the city’s French and English past at every turn. Old Montréal is also filled with plenty of cultural and culinary riches. Locals and travelers alike are drawn to the multitude of museums and haute cuisine restaurants lining the atmospheric streets. By night, the area glows thanks to lights that were designed to emphasize the architectural details of the centuries-old buildings.
