Union Square Greenmarket
NYC’s flagship farmers market is open Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Oak Grove Plantation (Pittstown, New Jersey): Heirloom veggies and hormone-free pork.
  • Grazin’ Angus Acres (Northern Columbia County, New York): The only Animal Welfare Approved purveyor in the Greenmarket system.
  • Deep Mountain Maple (West Glover Vermont): Delicious, pesticide-free maple syrup.

New Amsterdam Market, Lower Manhattan
New Amsterdam’s vendors hawk everything from artisan breads to local honey. Sundays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Kombucha Brooklyn (Brooklyn): Kombucha on tap or in a growler.
  • Anarchy in a Jar (Brooklyn): Handmade jams, marmalades and chutneys.
  • Bees’ Needs (Sag Harbor, New York): This apiary produces raw, unfiltered honey.

Jackson Heights Greenmarket, Queens
Find fresh seafood and Mexican produce at this market in Queens. Sundays, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Hot Bread Kitchen (Queens): Specializes in ethnic breads.
  • American Seafood (Suffolk County, New York.): Wild-caught fish and shellfish.
  • Anthony Road Winery (Seneca Lake, New York): Try its 2009 riesling.

Park Slope Farmers Market, Brooklyn
Go for the treats, sweets, soaps and produce. Open year- round on Sundays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • YisRoYal Vegan Baked Goods (Brooklyn): Home of sought-after vegan dough.
  • Dr. Pickle (Wayne, New Jersey): All things pickled, from sauerkraut to, well, pickles.
  • Made by Molly (Brooklyn): Try her St. Louis Gooey butter cake.

Fort Greene Park Greenmarket, Brooklyn

This popular market offers fresh seafood, veggies and sustainably raised meats year-round. Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Ronnybrook Farm Dairy (Ancramdale, New York): By far the best local dairy.
  • Bad Seed Cider Co. (Highland New York): Small-batch hard ciders made from Hudson Valley apples.
  • Tello’s Green Farm (Duchess County, New York): Traditional and South American produce as well as cage-free, farm-fresh brown eggs.
