Guy Fieri has crafted a big business thanks to his colorful persona and rowdy antics.

He owns seven restaurants in California and parlayed his win on The Next Food Network Star into a massive splash as the face of the network with shows such as Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Ultimate Recipe Showdown and Guy Off the Hook.

His latest venture is Guy’s American Kitchen & Bar, which opened in New York City in September with three floors, a bustling vibe and signature dishes such as sangria-glazed shrimp and pretzel chicken tenders.

And don’t overlook Fieri’s passion for grits, coarsly ground corn mixed with boiling water.

Notes Fieri: “Grits are always an awesome side dish to any meal. The thing about grits that makes them so great is that you can dress ’em up with your favorite ingredients.”

Fun Facts About Grits

Grits are the official state prepared food of Georgia.

President Jimmy Carter's daughter, Amy, briefly owned a dog named Grits while living in the White House.

The word grits derives from the Old English word grytt, meaning coarse meal.

Where to Get It
Grits are popping up on menus coast to coast. Here are a few of our favorite eateries that boast true grit.

Miami's Yardbird Southern Table & Bar pairs stone-ground grits with Florida shrimp and crisp Virginia ham.     In NYC, superstar chef Bobby Flay celebrates the south at his Bar Americain with shrimp and grits with bacon, scallions and garlic.     Jim Jeffords of Alexandria, Virginia's Evening Star Café combines grits with garlic and mascarpone cheese. Gracious Grits! This Southern transplant living in Asia misses her Southern comfort foods! Loved reading Guy Fieri's grits article on a recent flight back to the US. I wanted to mention something I found while visiting home..."Gracious Grits" being produced by Billy Cissel in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Ready-made, fresh, creamy grits that you pop into the microwave for 3 minutes and they're ready to eat (or top with sauteed shrimp for delicious, quick shrimp-n-grits)! I bought 4 packages to bring back home with me to Singapore! www.graciousgrits.com. DELISH! Dru Jones, Singapore
