Embodying the spirit and passion of the American West, this museum was established in 1955 to honor the American cowboy (back then it was called the Cowboy Hall of Fame). One of the city’s most popular destinations, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum preserves and exhibits a range of Western art and artifacts. In the firearm exhibit, for instance, you can learn about the decorative, artistic details added to firearms in the 19th century., Or you can get a detailed perspective of cowboy history and culture stretching from Spanish colonial times to the 20th century in the American Cowboy Gallery. See how equipment, such as saddles, bits and spurs evolved over time. Return to a bygone era at Prosperity Junction, an exhibit located inside the museum this turn-of-the-century Western town is made up of 19 buildings, including a livery stable, blacksmith shop, saloon, bank, church and mercantile store.
