Whether you’re a museum newbie or an art aficionado, there’s more than one way to enjoy the Joslyn Art Museum.

With permanent collections ranging from ancient Greek pottery and Egyptian pieces to French Impressionist works, Joslyn Art Museum offers visitors a variety of art to peruse. Participate in a museum gallery talk, enjoying a public tour or listen to a lecture at Joslyn. The museum can also arrange private adult tours for groups.

Public Tours
Join in on a public tour to learn a little more about some of Joslyn’s stunning pieces of artwork in its vast collection. Usually held Wednesday through Saturday, each public tour is a unique look into Joslyn. Docents guide groups of two to 50 people through the museum for 45 minutes to an hour, highlighting some of the museum’s most famous pieces, and traveling or permanent exhibits such as the museum’s collection of Latin American art. Learn about the artists and ask questions while getting a first-hand experience of Joslyn’s art collection. Public tours are free with regular museum admission.

Private Adult Tours
For groups of 10 or more, Joslyn offers private adult tours of both permanent and traveling exhibits. Ideal for a business or family groups, Joslyn’s adult tours are led by trained docents and give patrons the chance to experience the museum from expert eyes. Tour any one of Joslyn’s exhibits, although tours tend to choose special, traveling collections. After the tour, enjoy a boxed lunch from Café Durham, the museum’s restaurant. Adult tours must be planned ahead of time and choose from galleries based on personal interest. To schedule a private tour call the museum at least four weeks in advance. Tours are free with general museum admission.

Experience art history at Joslyn with an hour-long lecture. Held in the elegantly designed Witherspoon concert hall, these lectures feature a speaking historian or specialist on the topic and slide show. Relax in the 1,000-seat Art Deco concert hall, and learn more about Joslyn’s art collections. Typical prices range from free with museum admission to $10.

Gallery Talks
Similar to the lectures, gallery talks bring in artists, curators or visiting speakers with expertise on a specific topic or pieces within a gallery. Gallery Talks may also incorporate entertainment; recently Joslyn hosted a harpist in the Impressionism exhibition. Held in the museum’s galleries, visitors can view the artwork and sketch it during the talk. Additionally, Creighton University professors present lectures at 2 p.m. every Sunday.
