Lobstering is a business and a way of life in New England, and nowhere is the tradition more entrenched than in Maine, famous for the tasty crustaceans hauled up in traps from its coastal waters. Lucky Catch Cruises puts you on a lobstering boat for a 90-minute tour of the waters around Portland, combining a scenic cruise that visits historic lighthouses and craggy islands with a tutorial on the life of a working lobsterman. You’ll haul in traps and get to handle a few clawed critters yourself before heading back to port. Sporadically offered special trips include bird-watching excursions and combination cruise-and-kayaking trips. You can even buy a few lobsters to take home for dinner at the end of the day. Reserve ahead.
