Vitaly Paley, owner of Paley’s Place and winner of the 2005 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Northwest, has been serving some of Portland’s best dishes since the restaurant’s grand opening in 1995. Paley’s Place has a seasonal menu inspired by local, organic and sustainable ingredients with the bold flavors of Southern French and Northern Italian cuisine. American Kobe Beef steak tartar and crispy sweetbreads served with herb spätzle, chanterelle mushrooms, and kidney-mustard sauce are popular with local diners, along with rotating sustainable seafood specials. Located in a Victorian house in one of Portland’s historic neighborhoods, Paley’s Place has an intimate atmosphere, whether you dine on the front porch, at the bar or in the dining room.

"We want you to visit our State of Excitement often. Come again and again. But for heaven's sake, don't move here to live. Or if you do have to move in to live, don't tell any of your neighbors where you are going." —Governor Tom McCall, 1971 interview
