Hugging the rim of the Spokane River, the 37-mile Centennial Trail begins at the Idaho state line and ends at Nine Mile Falls, with the most grueling section of the trail beginning in Riverside Park. An entirely paved route, with 30 miles of it separated from vehicular traffic, the trail offers a safe and peaceful trek as you only share the path with fellow walkers, hikers or bike riders. With a birds-eye view of the river, you’ll spot the Bowl and Pitcher area—a geological marvel—and sky-high pine and fir trees. Though the trek through some of the Riverside State Park forests is admittedly challenging, reaching the final mark at Sontag Park is worth the muscle-burning workout.
