Now a part of the Museum of Florida History, the Knott House was built in 1843 and has been recently restored to its 1928 grandeur. It is locally known as the “House of Rhymes” because Luella Knott (the wife of a state treasurer William Knott) wrote many verses about the home and its furnishings. Throughout the house, her poems are attached to her favorite items and furniture pieces with satin ribbons. The Knott House is also full of historic significance because on May 20, 1865, the Emancipation Proclamation was read on the front steps that granted slaves their freedom.
