Located on Valparaiso’s original main street, the Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida is dedicated to preserving the region’s history and cultural identity, through exhibits about the area’s settlers, their way of life and their connection to the land. On display at the museum are relics such as flint spear points, a black iron wash pot, crosscut saws, turpentine collection cups and lumber mill tokens, as well as stone tools and weapons chipped by Florida’s first residents, the Paleo-Archaic hunters. Discover how the lumber and turpentine industry changed the panhandle’s landscape, and how the arrival of railroad in 1883 helped transform the region from a frontier to civilization. Also learn about the area’s storied military history, from the Civil War until present day.
