Birding Hot Spots Around the World

If you’re new to birding, a good place to start is in your own yard or at a local nature center. And if you’re ready to travel, these spots are known for their avian riches.

Attu Island, Alaska
Birds you might see: short-tailed albatross, common snipe, rustic bunting, brambling, Aleutian tern, gray-tailed tattler.

Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, Texas
Birds you might see: green jay, plain chachalaca, ferruginous pygmy-owl, northern beardless-tyrannulet, clay-colored thrush, hook-billed kite.

Birds you might see: ornate hawk-eagle, oropendola, golden-headed manakin, bearded bellbird.

Darien National Park, Panama
Birds you might see: harpy eagle, golden-headed quetzal, blue and yellow macaw, great green macaw, chestnut-fronted macaw, crimson-backed tananger.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda
Birds you might see: African green broadbill, dwarf honeyguide, blue-throated rollor, Kivu ground-thrush.

Rift Valley Lakes, Kenya
Birds you might see: African fish eagle, greater and lesser flamingo, sacred ibis, Hemprich’s hornbill, Jackson’s hornbill.

Kruger National Park, South Africa
Birds you might see: mashona hyliota, Bokmakierie, Böhm’s spinetail, Dickinson’s kestrel, Pel’s fishing owl.

Kerala, India
Birds you might see: White-bellied treepie, Indian pitta, Malabar whistling thrush, jungle owlet, white-bellied blue flycatcher.
