Rachel Maddow's Favorite Street: Extras

Main Street Northampton
TV and radio host Rachel Maddow ascended to national pop prominence quickly. She is maddeningly well informed (she was a Rhodes Scholar and has a PhD in political science from Oxford) and radiates a homespun Yankee charisma both on and off the set of MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show. No wonder she calls this quiet—but cosmopolitan—town home. Her favorite street is, of course, Main Street. “It really is a microcosm of what’s so attractive about living in that part of New England,” she says. “At one end, it’s Smith College, and at the other end is a railroad overpass that takes train cars full of coal to the coal-fired power plant. You can’t get more old school than that.”
Turn It Up! Records
“There’s a really good CD store that’s underground just off Main Street called Turn It Up! Records. It has the perfect attitude. I’ve spent many a paycheck on CDs there. Raven is the place for used books, and has a very scholarly vibe.”

Modern Myths
“I love comic books, and Modern Myths is my favorite comic book store in the world,” says Maddow. “There’s a brand new comic series that I love, which is called Stumptown, by a guy named Greg Rucka, and I’m a huge fan of everything that he does. 34 Bridge St.

The Hotel Northampton
The Dirty Truth
The Dirty Truth has an incredible beer selection from all over the world. I am a specialty cocktail person, but when I go to The Dirty Truth, I drink beer,” says Maddow. 29 Main St.
