The Tony Knowles Coast Trail starts in downtown Anchorage and winds 11 miles through beautiful coastal parks with breathtaking vistas. Although walking the trail is enjoyable, you can cover more ground by bike. Downtown Bicycle Rental’s reasonable rates ($16 for 3 hours, $4 each extra hour or $32 for 24 hours, including lock, helmet and map) and location near the trail are ideal for travelers. As you leave downtown, you’ll pass by the backyards of many million-dollar homes on your left while potentially spotting beluga whales in Cook Inlet to your right. As you get farther from town, passing the airport, you may encounter moose and other wildlife. The trail ends at Kincaid Park, which has more than 30 miles of roller-coaster mountain bike trails.
