In 1895, a little boy named George Herman Ruth Jr. was born in Baltimore. Babe Ruth would go on to become the “Sultan of Swat,” a 500 Home Run Club member and one of the greatest major league baseball players of all time. The Babe Ruth Museum in Camden Yards honors the legend with a look at his childhood home, life and times. Through the exhibits, visitors can check out Ruth’s mitt, jerseys and other equipment while marveling over his many records and achievements. Then, walk a few blocks to the Sports Legends Museum (301 W. Camden St.) and continue the journey with more exhibits featuring Ruth, plus other major leaguers like Cal Ripken Jr., Lefty Grove and Frank (Home Run) Baker. Additional exhibits feature the Baltimore Orioles, Colts, Ravens and Blast; the Orioles Hall of Fame; Negro League teams; the Preakness; the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame; and regional college athletics.
