Given the city’s harbor setting, it’s no wonder that Baltimore is the site of the National Aquarium. Among the world’s largest aquariums, this one is home to 16,500 specimens of marine life and other animals, and more than 660 individual species. Visitors can view the hundreds of fish and other creatures in recreations of their natural habitat, attend a dolphin show or see a film in the 4-D Immersion Theater, which incorporates sights, sounds and smells of the story. When it’s time for lunch, the Harbor Market Kitchen cafe offers fresh, earth-friendly eats. Depending on the day, the museum can get busy, so avoid the crowds by arriving before 11 a.m. or after 3 p.m.
