Birmingham’s Sweet Tea Restaurant offers more than a meat-and-three meal, it also provides a visual chronology of owner Chris Tomaras’ life story from his childhood home in Piraeus, Greece, all the way to Birmingham. (Tomaras is also the brains behind Kronos Foods—one of the country’s first gyro suppliers.) If you haven’t guessed it yet, Sweet Tea is a Greek restaurant, but it serves up traditional Southern entrees as well, offering an interesting mélange of flavors that change daily (with entrees picked by you from the steam table line). Don’t be surprised to find Southern fried chicken next to baked Greek chicken on the menu.
