The palazzo-styled Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is often called Bostonians' favorite museum, and it's easy to see why after a visit. The three floors house one of the nation's finest collections of art that spans 30 centuries, and the courtyard in the center of the museum is beautifully sculptured and full of flowers, creating a perfect space to wander and reflect on the museum's unique offerings.

Gardner Museum
The Gardner Museum is expanding! Learn more about the Museum's and its current Extension and Restoration Project - rooted in preservation. The project includes extensive restoration of the historic galleries (including the Tapestry Room, which will be returned to its historic appearance as a grand tapestry hall) and a new wing designed by architect Renzo Piano, opening in January 2012. The new wing will be a work of art itself and a new cultural landmark. Incorporating a naturally illuminated gallery for historic and contemporary art exhibitions, an acoustically distinguished hall for concerts and performances, accessible working greenhouses, and inspiring classrooms, the new wing will relieve pressures on the historic collection, while enabling visitors to more deeply engage with the museum’s programmatic legacy. The new wing opens in January 2012 but the historic remain will remain open during construction.
