Most visitors to Bozeman are on their way to or from Yellowstone National Park. The city has the most convenient airport to the park, and it’s an hour and a half by car to either the north or west entrances. The world’s first national park is also its most varied, famous for it spouting geysers and bubbling hot springs, but full of magnificent waterfalls, snowcapped peaks and wildlife-rich valleys as well. Plan a minimum of three days for Yellowstone, if possible, staying in the park at one of the grand, historic lodges. Free ranger tours at Mammoth or Old Faithful villages are an excellent way to acquaint yourself with the quirks of hydrogeology and volcanology that have led to Yellowstone’s rugged and unique terrain. Brake for bison!
