With so many great walking tours, comfy shoes are paramount. Lucky for you, Budapest is extremely relaxed compared to other European cities. But the vast majority of women favor simple ensembles of denim, T-shirts and flip-flops or ballerina flats; and the men are similarly casual. Be sure to pack an extra layer for breezy evenings along the Danube. And don’t forget any over-the-counter supplements or painkillers you might need, whether it’s Tylenol or Metamucil. In Hungary, these products are relegated behind the counters of pharmacies (called gyógyszertár). So it’s difficult, if not impossible, to find what you need.
