American history buffs must check out this Connecticut landmark. Home to four generations of Butlers and McCooks during the first 200 years of our nation's history, it was built in 1782 by Dr. Daniel Butler and his wife, Sarah Sheldon Butler, and remained in the family until it became a museum in 1971. Design buffs will love viewing the home’s original furnishings that include Hartford's oldest intact collection of art and antiques. And for a garden to make your heart race, check out the restored Victorian ornamental garden, designed in 1865 by Jacob Weidenmann, one of the most renowned landscape architects in Victorian America.
