You can learn a lot about a city from its local writers, and the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center is one of the most telling venues. Best known for Uncle Tom's Cabin (1852), Stowe helped change how Americans viewed the institution of slavery. It’s not often that you can tour the original home and gardens of one of the country’s greatest authors. Try and make the Welcome to our Home Tour and experience the Stowe House on a living history tour with an interpreter dressed as Eliza or Hattie Stowe, one of Stowe's twin daughters. You can catch it on the third Saturday of every month at 4 p.m. or any time if you call ahead.
