Originally an English settlement, Newtown was renamed Hartford in 1637. Hartford is still home to the nation’s oldest continuously published newspaper, The Hartford Courant, the oldest public park, Bushnell Park, and the oldest public art museum, the Wadsworth Athenaeum.
