Transportation 101

Honolulu International Airport is a 10-minute drive from the city center, and 25 minutes from Waikiki. The H1 freeway gets you there, but if you’re not in a rush opt for the more scenic Nimitz Highway, which follows the Honolulu Harbor. Average taxi fares are around $35, but Reliable shuttle (888-924-9292) has a round trip fare for $19.

TheBus stops throughout the city and is efficient and reliable. Within Waikiki, there’s a three-line open-air trolley, which stops at most attractions. A four-day pass is $43, and may be a bargain compared to rental car or taxi rates. Most hotels and shopping centers have cabstands.
