Transportation 101

Istanbul has horrendous traffic, so walking is a terrific way to get around, especially around the Sultanahmet Square area. Taxis are plentiful and inexpensive, but beware catching a cab anytime near rush hour. If you are heading out to a more far-flung neighborhood such as Levent, take the wonderful, modern Metro. There are also futuristic trams that slice through traffic around the Grand Bazaar and Sultanahmet Square that cross into the Old City.
