The official language in Jamaica is English, but the local Patois is also spoken, which is a mixture of English, Spanish, and various African languages.

Most Jamaicans are the descendants of the people of Africa, Europe and Asia.

Jamaica is 4,411 square miles, which is just a bit smaller than the state of Connecticut.

Jamaica achieved independence in 1962, but is still a member of the British Commonwealth. Therefore, Queen Elizabeth II is still Queen of Jamaica.

Orchids grow wild in Jamaica and there are 200 different species of them, 73 of which are found nowhere else.
