After flying into Johannesburg, make the scenic drive to Sabi Sabi game reserve. The private reserve is situated in the southwestern part of Kruger National Park and is home to the Big Five—lions, leopards, rhinos, buffalo and elephants—as well as cheetahs, wild dogs and more than 350 species of birds. But you won’t be roughing it. After a long day roaming the bush with your guide, come back to the Selati Camp, one of the reserve’s four award-winning lodges imbued with a colonial Out of Africa vibe. (Stay in the Ivory Presidential Suite for a real treat.) Rinse the day away in your private outdoor shower before joining the group for a traditional boma dinner under the stars. You’ll feel like royalty in no time.—Elizabeth Doyle
