Check the tides before planning your visit to Spouting Horn, one of Kauai’s most famous natural wonders. When the tide is high enough, this series of blowholes in the lava rock can shoot water as high as 50 feet into the air. (Beware, the spray can get you pretty wet in the viewing area!) Just a 20-minute drive from Poipu Beach, Spouting Horn makes a good stop on the way to Waimea or Hanapepe; part of the fun is watching your fellow tourists try to capture the blowhole on film. Considered a section of the historic Koloa Heritage Trail, you can also combine seeing Spouting Horn with a visit to old Koloa town, with its quaint shops.
