Ride your bike to the end of Southard Street past Truman Annex and you will hit Fort Zach, as the locals call it, the perfect place to experience the beach in Key West. Before you get set up on the beach, make sure to explore the fort, built in the mid-1800s to defend the nation’s southeastern coastline. The Fort did play an important role in both the Civil War and the Spanish-American War and guided tours are available daily. After your tour, hit the beach at the southern end of the park for snorkeling, swimming or fishing in the warm Key West waters. There is also the beachfront Cayo Hueso Café in the park that serves snacks, cold beverages and souvenirs.
