There is a life-sized statue of Abraham Lincoln on Brazenose Street in Manchester? Yep. He was a gift. The imposing and slightly curious bronze figure of the beloved American President stands tall in the aptly named Lincoln Square. The George Grey Barnard creation was presented to Lancashire citizens in 1919 in recognition of the sacrifices cotton operatives made during a debilitating cotton shortage in attempts to support the Union during the Civil War.
