History comes to life at the Center for Southern Folklore, which aims to let visitors experience the Memphis/Delta Region of days gone by through the experiences, music, lifestyles, arts and foods of its former residents. Through interviewing those who were intent on passing along the stories of those who have stepped into the mists of time, the center has created archives that include films, recordings, images, and full-scale exhibitions. The organization also stages the Memphis Music and Heritage festival in September each year, which features some of the areas most talented musicians. While here, be sure to take a respite from your educational ramblings to enjoy Miss Ella’s famous peach cobbler and a gourmet coffee, or shop in the Folklore Store. The exhibitions range from poignant to uplifting so pack a Kleenex or two if you’re a softie for the struggles of those who have blazed the trails that made our lives easier today.
