Start with cocktails at the
The Sazerac Bar in the Roosevelt Hotel, which has beautiful 1930s murals by Paul Ninas. Then over to Tremé to the
Candlelight Lounge to catch the Treme Brass Band, followed by a walk past Congo Square—the birthplace of jazz—into the French Quarter for another cocktail at
Napoleon House. Dinner will be frog legs and Death by Gumbo with a great sauterne wine at
R’evolution. Then some bar-hopping on Frenchmen Street. By then, it’ll be time to stop at
Gene’s Po-Boys for a late-night hot sausage po-boy. Then walk that off by going back into the Quarter to the
Jazz Playhouse, then a streetcar ride uptown into the Garden District for a late-night cocktail at the
Sandpiper Lounge. As the morning comes up, finish with beignets and café au lait on the riverfront. I’m doing that the next time I’m home!
