On a spring day in April 1995, the lives of Oklahomans changed forever. A tragic bombing destroyed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building killing 168 people. The National Memorial is dedicated to remembering the lives lost and educating visitors about the impact of violence. The indoor museum takes visitors on a self-guided tour through the time leading up to the bombing, the events of the day, the investigation, rescue and recovery, survivor experiences and the world’s reaction. The Outdoor Symbolic Memorial is a serene place to reflect on the tragedy. The Gates of Time mark the entrance to the Memorial. Nine rows made up of 168 chairs bear the names of lives taken. A survivor wall is the only remaining wall of the Murrah Building.
