Enjoy a walk around the lush 30-acre expanse of Will Rogers Gardents located in the northwestern part of the city. One of Oklahoma City’s original parks, and noted on the National Registry of Historic Places, it was named for Oklahoma’s favorite son, Will Rogers, a cowboy, comedian, social commentator, actor and one of the best-known celebrities in the 1920s and 1930s (a bust of Will Rogers sits on the north side of the garden’s lake). Garden highlights include the Charles E. Sparks Rose Garden filled with 85 varieties of roses that typically bloom April through October and the sizeable collection of cacti in the Ed Lycan Conservatory. The 10-acre Arboretum filled with walking paths features hundreds of varieties of trees—including some planted back in the 1930s by famed horticulturalist Henry Walter. If you have a green thumb, you might want to consider looking into some of the classes and workshops offered by the park.
