Transportation 101

Philadelphia is a great walking town. But the best way to give your feet a break is with an $11 One-Day Independence Pass that lets you hop on any of the transit system’s (SEPTA) buses, trolleys, subways or trains. You can even jump on and off the Philly Phlash, a purple touring bus-trolley hybrid that travels a 20-stop Center City loop daily, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., May through November. Taxis are another great option—more than half a dozen taxi companies service the city—and can be hailed all over town. Philadelphia International Airport is eight miles from the city. Taxis charge a flat rate to and from Center City (around $28), but a cheaper alternative is the SEPTA Airport Rail Line starting at $5.50 one way.
