Food shops and produce stalls line a half-mile stretch of South Ninth Street known as the Italian Market, established more than a century ago by Italian immigrants. At the heart of it, between Wharton and Fitzwater Street, there are butcher shops, cheese emporiums, bakeries, spice markets and pasta stores. Strolling the sidewalks—distinctly covered with metal and canvas awnings—you’ll also find great taquerias and Southeast Asian eateries, too.
