Portland, Mainenew england charm

Portland is a city celebrated for its green space (and, of course, its blue space). Urban trails weave throughout the city, usually along the waterfront. The two-mile Eastern Promenade trail is a walking and biking path that picks up near the Old Port, following the waterline past a number of beaches and piers, parks and playgrounds. A historic rail line follows much of the route, and there are some brightly colored, restored train cars displayed outside the adjacent Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Company & Museum. At an inlet called Back Bay, the Eastern Prom meets the 3.6-mile Back Bay Loop, a shore-hugging trail with great skyline views.
