Edgar Allen Poe was born in Boston, but he lived in Richmond and went to college at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. The museum is located just a few blocks from Poe’s first Richmond house. The collection includes several of Poe’s documents and personal collections, as well as first editions of many of his literary works. His powerful words live on in photographs and actual mundane objects of his everyday life, offering a glimpse into the boy, the man, the writer and the Richmond resident. The museum has the largest collection of Poe memorabilia in the world.
